Upcoming SBS drama “My Royal Nemesis” has unveiled new stills of Lim Ji Yeon in character!

“My Royal Nemesis” is a romantic comedy starring Lim Ji Yeon as Shin Seo Ri, a struggling actress who is suddenly possessed by the spirit of a notorious villainess from the Joseon era. Heo Nam Jun will star as Cha Se Gye, a ruthless chaebol heir who is known as a “monster created by capitalism.”

In the drama, Lim Ji Yeon also plays Joseon villainess Kang Dan Shim. Kang Dan Shim is a character who spits when mocked and strikes back when slandered. Born of humble origins, she rises to the rank of Royal Concubine, becoming one of Joseon’s most infamous villains.

The images show Dan Shim receiving poison. Emerging from the palace with a calm expression, she reacts with shock and anger at the sight of the poison. Kneeling on the floor, Dan Shim glares fiercely before shedding a single tear of anguish.

She vents her rage by smashing the bowl of poison, showing strength that four palace maids cannot easily overcome.

Nam Tae Hyun has received his sentence at his first trial.

On April 9, the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Division 11 held the first trial sentencing hearing for Nam Tae Hyun, who was indicted on charges including violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).

The court sentenced him to one year in prison along with a fine of 1 million won (approximately $675).

The court stated, “While the defendant has confessed and is reflecting on his actions, we have taken into account that he committed drunk driving again despite previously being fined for the same offense. In addition, he committed this offense during a probation period following a confirmed drug-related charge, which warrants strict punishment.”

Nam Tae Hyun is accused of causing an accident at around 4:10 a.m. KST on April 27 last year after drinking while attempting to overtake a vehicle near Dongjak Bridge on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro highway heading toward Ilsan, during which he crashed into the central divider. He was driving at 182 km/h, far exceeding the road’s speed limit of 80 km/h.

Although there were no injuries or victims from the accident, his blood alcohol concentration at the time was reported to be 0.122 percent, well above the license revocation level of 0.08 percent.

Previously, during the final hearing on March 12, prosecutors had requested a sentence of one year and six months in prison along with a fine of 1 million won, citing his prior record for similar offenses, his high blood alcohol level, excessive speeding, and the fact that the incident occurred during his probation period.

We sincerely apologize for causing concern due to the recent tax-related controversy involving our artists.

We view the matter not as an isolated incident but as a serious matter stemming from shortcomings in the company’s management responsibilities.

As a company responsible for supporting and managing all aspects of our artists’ activities, we acknowledge and reflect on our failure to review this issue in advance as well as gaps in our management process.

TVING’s upcoming drama “The Legend of Kitchen Soldier” has unveiled a new teaser!

Based on a popular web novel and webtoon, “The Legend of Kitchen Soldier” is a military fantasy-comedy drama that tells the story of army cook Kang Sung Jae (Park Ji Hoon). When a mysterious quest window pops up in front of him one day, Private Kang Sung Jae begins an unexpected journey that will lead him down the path towards becoming a legendary cook.

The newly released video opens with the awkward Kang Sung Jae, a Republic of Korea Army soldier, finishing basic training and heading to his assigned unit. Instead of fantasies about dedicating himself in service as an ROK Army soldier, reality greets him with seniors who look at him with skeptical, unconvinced eyes.

Before he even has a chance to settle into the unit, one line—“I can cook ramen!”—lands Kang Sung Jae in the role of a cook. The moment he steps into the food storage room, he becomes enveloped in a mysterious energy. I’m really happy to be a part of a project with a novel setting and charming characters.”

Chung Su Bin will be playing high school student Chae Do Young, who is planning an elaborate accidental death. The actress will three-dimensionally portray a teenager who appears clumsy and bright on the outside but harbors very complicated feelings on the inside. The actress shared, “It’s a synopsis I read in a heartbeat as soon as I got my hands on it because I was curious about the ending. BLACKPINK continues to make history on YouTube!

On the morning of April 9 KST, BLACKPINK’s music video for their 2019 hit “Kill This Love” surpassed 2.2 billion views on YouTube.

“Kill This Love” is only the second K-pop group music video ever to hit the 2.2 billion mark on the platform, following BLACKPINK’s own “DDU-DU DDU-DU.” Even including solo artists, it is only the third K-pop music video to reach the milestone overall (the first being PSY’s “Gangnam Style”).

As a result, on top of already being the only K-pop group ever to have surpassed 2.2 billion views with a music video on YouTube, BLACKPINK has now also become the first K-pop artist ever to reach the milestone with more than one music video.

“Kill This Love” was originally released on April 5, 2019 at midnight KST, meaning that it took the video just over seven years and four days to hit 2.2 billion views.

The rankings were determined through an analysis of consumer behavior, using big data collected from March 9 to April 9. The Korean Business Research Institute evaluated the participation, communication, media, and social values of popular advertisement models in order to calculate each star’s total brand reputation index for the month.

BTS held onto their spot at the top of the list this month with a brand reputation index of 7,362,249, marking a whopping 159.43 percent increase in their score since March.

High-ranking phrases in BTS’s keyword analysis included “ARIRANG,” “world tour,” and “Billboard,” while their highest-ranking related terms included “all-kill,” “dominate,” and “record.” BTS’s positivity-negativity analysis also revealed a score of 91.90 percent positive reactions.

IVE jumped to second place after seeing an 80.53 percent increase in their brand reputation index, bringing their total score to 3,063,321 for April.

Lim Young Woong maintained his position at third place with a brand reputation index of 2,896,428, marking a 51.17 percent rise in his score since last month.

Park Ji Hoon shot to fourth place after seeing an 88.46 percent increase in his brand reputation index, bringing his total score to 1,896,965 for the month.

Cha Eun Woo has shared a personal statement addressing the tax-related controversy involving him.

Previously, on January 22, it was reported that Cha Eun Woo had been investigated last year by the Investigation Bureau 4 of the Seoul Regional Tax Office on suspicion of tax evasion, and that the National Tax Service had issued an additional tax assessment exceeding 20 billion won (approximately $13.6 million).

On April 8, Cha Eun Woo took to his personal Instagram to apologize and confirm that he has fully paid the related taxes.

This is Cha Eun Woo.

I sincerely apologize to my fans and everyone else for the disappointment and confusion caused by the recent tax-related controversy involving me.

As various administrative procedures were underway, I had to be cautious in expressing my position, and I apologize once again for the delay in speaking out.

Although it is late, I would like to personally share my thoughts and position now.

I respect the procedures and findings of the National Tax Service, and to prevent any further confusion, I have fully paid the related taxes. I will also diligently comply with any remaining procedures.

Having received so much love and support, I am taking this matter very seriously and reflecting deeply. If there were aspects I failed to carefully review, the responsibility lies entirely with me. I will not avoid accountability by saying “I didn’t know” or that it was “someone else’s decision.”

“Teaching Practice: Idiot Girls and School Ghost 2” is a standalone sequel to the 2024 film “Idiot Girls and School Ghost: School Anniversary.” It is a high school comedy-horror about Eun Gyeong (Han Sun Hwa), a passionate Gen MZ student teacher who ends up taking a deadly mock test against the ghost of the college entrance exam, alongside members of a black magic club. Previously, Geonwoo was swept up in controversy due to industry representatives’ accounts of improper remarks and poor attitude allegedly displayed behind-the-scenes.

On April 8, the group’s agency released the following statement:

Hello. This is WAKEONE.

First, we sincerely apologize for the delay in issuing our position to all fans who care for and support ALPHA DRIVE ONE.

Our company has a responsibility to support our artists so they can focus on their activities in a stable environment and to manage them so they can uphold the basic attitude and standards required as artists. However, we feel a heavy sense of responsibility for failing to sufficiently fulfill these duties.

We would like to clarify the facts regarding Kim Geonwoo’s remarks that have been raised online. The relevant incident occurred on set when filming content prior to debut. At the time, Kim Geonwoo expressed dissatisfaction using inappropriate language without realizing that his microphone was on. His remarks were not criticism or a personal attack directed at any specific individual but were spoken in the form of a muttered remark to himself. Nevertheless, they were inappropriate under any circumstances. We once again offer our deepest apologies to the staff on site who may have felt uncomfortable as a result. We are also truly sorry for causing concern to our fans.

Immediately after the incident, he conveyed his apology to the production team, and our company understood the matter to have been concluded through mutual communication. In addition, we did not release a separate statement considering that it could place additional burden on or cause harm to the production team. However, afterward, various suspicions that differed from the facts were raised online, and the process of verifying whether each claim was true took time, which led to the delay in our statement. However, we ask for your understanding that broadcasts and some content that were fully filmed and produced prior to the suspension of activities may still be released according to the previously agreed schedule.

Our agency is reviewing our overall internal and external communication methods and is also taking a close look at our artist management system. Kim Shin Rok plays Choi Hyun Hee, who visits the Dungwoori Building to have lunch with her younger brother Choi Hyun Seok (Ji Chang Wook) during a rare vacation. She ends up becoming one of the survivors trapped by the outbreak.

Kim Shin Rok said, “I developed the role based on director Yeon Sang Ho’s description of Choi Hyun Hee as ‘a person who trusts human society and human goodwill.’”

Director Yeon Sang Ho added, “I wanted to portray Choi Hyun Hee, a character with a disability, in a multidimensional way. As I thought about how to present her differently, I believed Kim Shin Rok was the right choice.”

For the role, Kim Shin Rok trained to use a wheelchair and also lost weight for scenes in which she is carried on the back of Ji Chang Wook. Ji Chang Wook said, “I was the one carrying her, but I actually relied on Kim Shin Rok.”

Jun Ji Hyun, who plays Kwon Se Jung, the leader of the survivor group, also said, “Acting with Kim Shin Rok, who is the same age as me, brought us closer, and I learned a great deal.”

“Colony” is scheduled to hit theaters in May.

Upcoming drama “The Scarecrow” has unveiled a new poster!

“The Scarecrow” follows a detective investigating a series of murders who is forced into an unlikely partnership with a man he despises. Set between 1988 and 2019, the suspenseful story tracks two men bound by misfortune and an uneasy alliance of hatred as they chase the truth across 30 years.

Park Hae Soo stars as ace detective Kang Tae Joo, known for his relentless observation and sharp intuition, while Lee Hee Joon plays elite prosecutor Cha Si Young, admired for his cool judgment and political savvy. Caught between a killer they are desperate to catch and a man they intensely hate, the two form a fragile partnership that drives the story’s suspense.

Kwak Sun Young plays Seo Ji Won, a righteous reporter and Kang Tae Joo’s elementary school classmate.

Song Geon Hee plays Lee Ki Beom, the younger brother of Lee Ki Hwan (Jung Moon Sung) and the boyfriend of Kang Soon Young (Seo Ji Hye). He studies at a university in Seoul before returning to Gangseong to help run his brother’s bookstore.

Seo Ji Hye plays Kang Soon Young, Kang Tae Joo’s younger sister and Lee Ki Beom’s girlfriend. At school, she is a kind and caring teacher who cherishes her students, while at home, she is a sister who does not hold back her scolding out of concern for her brother.

Jung Moon Sung plays Lee Ki Hwan, the owner of a local bookstore and the older brother of Lee Ki Beom. He is a lifelong resident of Gangseong who attended elementary school with Kang Tae Joo and Seo Ji Won.

Baek Hyun Jin plays Kim Man Chun, the team leader of the Gangseong Police Station, known for his down-to-earth leadership, while Yoo Seung Mok plays Cha Si Young’s father Cha Mu Jin, a former military general and prominent politician.

The poster shows these eight characters connected by a series of brutal serial killings. A newspaper from one day in October 1988 is covered with articles about the still-unsolved investigation.

Detective Kang Tae Joo, aiming a gun at someone, Prosecutor Cha Si Young, whose facial expression reveals nothing, and Gangseong Daily reporter Seo Ji Won, reporting with a serious look, are among the faces that stand out. Also featured are Lee Ki Beom, Kang Soon Young, Lee Ki Hwan, Kim Man Chun, and Cha Moo Jin, each carrying their own story.

The phrase “Will you question, or will you cover up?” adds even more intrigue. As these characters view the same case from different perspectives, it remains to be seen whether the truth will finally come to light.

When Shin I Rang spotted a hair roller still stuck in the back of Han Na Hyun’s hair—something she hadn’t had time to remove during her hectic morning—he quietly took it out to spare her any embarrassment. However, Han Na Hyun misunderstood his action as a random prank of him tugging at her hair and reacted angrily, unable to hide her bewilderment as she asked, “What are you doing?”

At that moment, instead of explaining himself in detail, Shin I Rang simply said, “I was just happy to see you,” willingly choosing to be seen as someone who behaved rudely. By sacrificing his own image to protect Han Na Hyun’s perfection, this scene highlighted his extraordinary thoughtfulness.

Han Na Hyun was struggling after leaving Taebaek due to being blacklisted in the industry. While handing out business cards in front of the courthouse, she ran into Shin I Rang.

Embarrassed, she tried to hide her face with sunglasses and her hand, awkwardly denying knowing him by saying, “You’ve got the wrong person.” But to Shin I Rang, Han Na Hyun’s features were strikingly clear. He remarked, “Clear skin and such a tiny face—it is you, Lawyer Han Na Hyun, right?”

His offhand yet sincere compliment about her appearance revealed his subconscious attraction to her.

In moments of crisis, Shin I Rang instinctively looks out for Han Na Hyun before anything else. Even when she snapped, “Don’t ever act like you know me again,” after falling on the street, he calmly reassured her, saying, “You can report me or sue me later, but please sit down for a moment.”

Particularly impressive was his thoughtfulness. Despite wearing an uncomfortable suit, he didn’t hesitate to kneel on the rough asphalt and place a handkerchief under Na Hyun’s bare feet after her heel broke and she took off her high heels.

On top of that, feeling guilty that he might have been the reason she left Taebaek, he handed over a case he had received. And when he learned that the case was entangled with gangsters, he rushed over without hesitation, instinctively shielding her and blocking the violence. His actions hint at emotions far deeper than mere “kindness.”
