This is a very light, popcorn-type series clearly aimed at fans of the male lead (the same actor from When the Phone Rings). And the show knows it.Beyond the attractive protagonist, the story offers nothing new. It runs entirely on the familiar supernatural formula these dramas have used many times before:A ghost with an unresolved injustice. The protagonist receives privileged information from the spirit. To everyone else he looks crazy because he talks to the ghost or suddenly acts possessed.Using that information, he confronts the culprit. The guilty party panics or exposes themselves.Moral justice is delivered and the spirit finally moves on.And that’s the system. This isn’t really a legal drama, because the protagonist already knows the truth from the beginning. The courtroom simply becomes a stage to reveal what the ghost already told him.0 out of 5 stars if you’re looking for something original.5 out of 5 if you just want to watch your favorite actor and don’t care about the story at all.

Phantom Lawyer is a surprisingly refreshing mix of humor, heart, and solid storytelling. What I appreciated most is how naturally it balances comedy with more emotional moments—it never feels forced or overdone.Yoo Yeon Seok truly shines here. His performance carries the drama, showing great range from light, comedic scenes to more intense and emotional moments. He brings depth and charm to his character, making him both entertaining and easy to root for. What elevates the series further is the emotional core of the story, especially the ghost storyline. It adds a touching layer that stays with you, giving the drama more meaning beyond its legal and comedic elements.Overall, Phantom Lawyer is an enjoyable and heartfelt watch, with strong acting, well-balanced tone, and a story that knows how to make you laugh while still pulling at your emotions.

Second Assessment: Bigger Winner

A skillfully blended mix of the supernatural, police procedural, and legal. One hugely important key to making these kinds of supernatural procedurals work is how the reveals are unlayered. The creative team knows this and slowly lets key characters struggle with uncovering the secret - in this case that the main character can talk to ghosts and be possessed.ESOM in her role reminds me a bit of the first season of Taxi Driver when she was step by step drawn into the confidence of the main team. Here she's skeptical but finds herself getting pulled into believing. So far this is being handled very skillfully. This is first a comedy with at times comical situations developing. However, there are plenty of tear jerking scenes as ghosts' predicaments get solved by the main character. For me there's a strong flavor from Missing: The Other Side as at the resolution of each ghost's heart wrenching problem the soul is released to cross over. The first episode was good, but as the series hits its stride there's a strong upward slope towards excellent. Very much looking forward to the remaining episodes.

i have the feeling that i ended up having a déjà vu

i have the feeling that i ended up having a déjà vu 🤔. ah, i know: i watched exactly a k-drama last year with the same plot and the same premise. but i remember that, there, the guy worked almost for free for the ghosts and still managed to make some money 💰 it’s inevitable we work to earn money.but here, i don’t get it: why isn’t the main character making any money? not even a little? not a single coin? 🤔on the other hand, that would be bizarre. a ghost doesn’t have a credit card or money saved. unless they left some amount while alive, but then that would basically be theft. the bank would call the police immediately! a stranger withdrawing money from someone else’s account? that would be simply absurd.i don’t know anything about law or advocacy, because i’ve never needed it, but it’s normal for you to have some money. the guy, from the beginning, was completely broke. he lives with his mother, then “borrows” (without her knowing) her money and, overnight, already has a place to practice his vocation. so far, so good.now i ask myself:how is he going to make money?who is going to pay the bills?the ghosts, maybe? 🤔the guy wrote a script and didn’t research a damn thing. “oh, but it’s fiction.” so what? there are limits to fiction. you don’t write something without knowing at least a little bit about how things work.not to mention the exaggerated and kind of embarrassing acting. yes, embarrassing. i felt sick i laughed. i thought i was laughing at something he did, but in the end i was laughing at the acting.ah, and not to forget the synchronicity with which the two lawyers take cases. are they working telepathically? 🤔 or are the ghosts bringing the cases to both of them?because, honestly, it feels like something written by someone who doesn’t even know what they wrote.i dropped it. and i felt free when i did that. it was a true liberation. i had more things to say, but i’m not having my best day.even so, i recommend it… for those who don’t mind some weirdness or like something completely outside logic.

Straightforward & Review-Style

So, I finally checked out Phantom Lawyer over the weekend, and honestly? It's a good time. Not exactly groundbreaking, but I totally get why people are already hooked.First off, can we talk about Yoo Yeon Seok? If you remember him as the smooth, icy executive from When the Phone Rings, prepare for whiplash. He plays Shin Yi-rang, this completely flustered, slightly awkward lawyer who moves into an old shaman office and suddenly starts seeing ghosts. The guy goes from timid to full-on possessed in seconds, and the physical comedy is just chef's kiss. There's this one scene where he's literally flailing around in court trying to explain a ghost's testimony without sounding insane, and I couldn't stop laughing.Esom plays opposite him as Han Na-hyun, this super by-the-book prosecutor who's all about logic and evidence. She’s the perfect straight-laced foil to his chaotic energy, and you just know they're going to bicker their way into becoming partners. Their dynamic already has that classic K-drama spark. The plot so far is pretty standard: ghost hires lawyer to solve his own murder. It's a bit of a "case of the week" setup, which I don't mind. Sure, it leans hard on that familiar trope where the hero gets all the answers from a spirit, so the courtroom stuff isn't exactly a nail-biter. You're not watching this for shocking legal twists, you know? But here's the thing: it's just so watchable. It's funny, it's got heart, and Yoo Yeon Seok is clearly having the time of his life. The ratings are already climbing, and I'm not surprised. If you want something light, a little goofy, and perfect for vegging out on the couch, Phantom Lawyer is a solid pick. I'm definitely sticking around to see where this ghostly law firm goes next

A Good Watch and an Emotional Rollercoaster

I was a bit reluctant to start this one but finally decided to give it a chance today and was hooked. Binged the first four episodes and looking forward to the next episodes.I won’t say much about the story to avoid spoilers but one minute I’m laughing, the next, I’m bawling my eyes out. And what does that tell you? It is, for sure, a good story. Emotional plot line and I love the concept too.Ah, also the little romance blooming on the side is really cute to see, so yeah, there’s that too.Overall, it’s a good show so far, and if just like me you’re also contemplating watching it, you should. I believe you won’t regret it.I hope the quality stays consistent until the end of the show.
